On July 3, 2026, at around 10 p.m., the Bozeman Police Department responded to Frontage Road and the westbound on-ramp to Interstate 90 for a reported vehicle versus motorcycle collision. Upon arrival, officers and passersby attempted lifesaving efforts on a motorcyclist who was seriously injured. Tragically, the motorcyclist was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office/Coroner will release the deceased motorcyclist’s name later.
This incident is currently being investigated by detectives from the Bozeman Police Department. Preliminary findings indicate a Jeep was traveling eastbound on Frontage Road when the driver made a left-hand turn with the intention of entering the westbound on-ramp of I-90. As the Jeep traveled through the intersection, a dirt bike was traveling westbound on Frontage Road and struck the passenger side of the Jeep. The driver of the Jeep did not see the dirt bike as there was no forward-facing headlamp or other lighting illuminated on the dirt bike. Investigators examined the dirt bike for evidence of lighting equipment and found none.
Evidence at the scene was consistent with the statements provided by the driver of the Jeep. There is no indication that the driver of the Jeep was impaired, and they are cooperating with the investigation.
We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Bozeman Fire Department, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, American Medical Response, and the Montana Highway Patrol for their valuable assistance throughout this investigation.
The Bozeman Police Department extends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the motorcyclist and the entire community, as we are all affected by this tragic loss of life.
