On July 11, at approximately 1:20 a.m., a Bozeman Police officer on patrol in the downtown area was approached by a group of people who reported a stabbing had just occurred in the 200 block of East Main Street. Shortly thereafter, bystanders walked the stabbing victim to the officer where immediate medical care was provided until emergency medical responders assumed care.

Additional officers responded to the area and contacted staff with the business where the stabbing occurred. Staff provided video surveillance footage that captured a physical disturbance occurring inside the business just before the victim was stabbed.  A suspect description was obtained from the surveillance footage and dispatched to officers. At approximately 1:26 a.m., officers located the suspect and took him into custody after a witness alerted them that he was attempting to leave the area.

The suspect is currently being held at the Gallatin County Detention Center without bond for the crimes of assault with a weapon and criminal endangerment, both felonies. The suspect is scheduled to appear in Gallatin County Justice Court on Monday, July 13.

The victim in this investigation received medical care for their wounds and has since been released from the hospital. At this time, there is no information indicating that there are any additional victims of the stabbing.
