For many years, the City of Bozeman has kept an eye on the Federal Building as a potential spot to relocate three different city buildings under one roof. After the General Services Administration’s (GSA) announcement on Thursday to dispose of the building, we are now pursuing acquiring it through the Historic Surplus Property Program, a program through the National Park Service that allows local governments to obtain and preserve historic buildings once used by the federal government at no cost.  

If the city can acquire the building through this program, residents would have greater ease of access to multiple city services, the building would be retained as a historic building, and we could keep the post office as a tenant.  

Bozeman residents have grown up around the Federal Building, and it has been a key feature of our downtown. We hope to keep it that way for our future generations.
