The City of Bozeman invites the community to celebrate sustainable landscaping at its annual Garden Party, taking place on Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Museum of the Rockies outdoor patio – rain or shine.
The free community event celebrates outdoor water conservation through a drought-tolerant plant giveaway*, free compost*, native seed mix, irrigation supplies, and more.
The Garden Party promotes and educates community members about watershed-wise landscaping and sustainable outdoor practices. The event brings together local nonprofits and government agencies that specialize in landscaping, irrigation, water conservation, native plants, noxious weeds, and birds.
“Last year, we had an incredible turnout. Over 350 community members came out to celebrate water-wise practices. We gave away 450 plants, 165 Water Smart Planting Guides, 50 sets of drip tubing, and 150 bags of compost,” said Jessica Ahlstrom, Water Conservation Program Manager. Jessica notes that “One of our favorite aspects of the Garden Party is the garden tours. Local landscape designer, Linda Iverson, walks guests through the planning, maintenance, and species of the Museum of the Rockies’ drought-tolerant gardens.”
Whether you are a new gardener or an experienced one, there is something or someone to learn from on June 6. The City encourages anyone who is interested in these topics to come out and learn more about various sustainable landscaping initiatives occurring in the Gallatin Valley.
*City of Bozeman water users are encouraged to bring their utility bill, either digitally or on paper, to receive plants and compost. All other giveaways and raffle entries are open to the public. Admission to the Museum of the Rockies is not included.
