The Bozeman Public Library has a summer calendar full of special events for all ages. The summer learning program, which has been running for over 50 years, is a ten-week interactive and free program. Events run from June 6 through Aug. 15.
“This year, we are delighted to introduce a new Library Scout program,” Ellie Newell, Youth Services Department Head, explained. “Kids, teens, and adults can complete library, reading, art, science, and community challenges to earn Library Scout embroidered patches.”
Summer Learning will begin with a kickoff celebration on Saturday, June 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Library Community Room. People of all ages can come assemble their own Summer Adventure Logs and create a custom trail mix to fuel their summer adventures.
Throughout the summer, kids can enjoy activities such as storytime, STEAM play, ballet classes, and special guest programs from groups such as Tinworks Art, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks, and Random Acts of Silliness. For teens, the Library will offer maker, culinary, and art workshops in the Creative Labs as well as a teen lock-in. Adult programming includes book clubs, workshops exploring the Work Bench and Kitchen Table, guided nature walks, a movement series that includes yoga and gyrokinesis, and science talks.
For people of all ages, the Library is hosting two lively concerts via the Music on the Green events in July and August. Mobile library services will also be provided throughout the summer.
Summer learning is especially important to combat “summer slide,” the phenomenon in which kids who do not read, do math and science, and learn during the summer lose educational skills. This year’s program invites people of all ages to play, with both guided and self-paced reading and learning challenges for kids, teens, and adults alike.
Free Summer Lunch for kids and teens, offered in partnership with HRDC and Bozeman Library Friends and Foundation, will once again be available Monday through Friday on the Library front plaza. All youth are welcome to eat a delicious and nutritious lunch regardless of family income; no registration needed.
