Special Services Officer

The Bozeman Police Department is now accepting applications for a Special Services Officer who will provide general security for the Bozeman Public Safety Center, Municipal Court, Bozeman Public Library, and other City buildings through monitoring access points and other designated areas.

Pay: $33.23 - $36.31 hourly, DOE
Work Week: This is a full-time opportunity. Shifts include: Monday – Thursday: 7:00am – 5:00pm, Tuesday – Friday: 7:00am – 5:00pm, Sunday – Wednesday: 8:00am – 6:00pm, and Wednesday – Sunday: 8:00am – 6:00pm. Overtime to include Tuesday evening Commission Meeting coverage and special events as needed.
You must possess a valid Class D Driver’s License and obtain a Montana Driver’s License within 60 days.
You must be able to pass a drug test, background check, and the Department's oral boards and designated physical and psychological tests.

Police Community Liaison

The Bozeman Police Department is seeking a passionate and collaborative Police Community Liaison to help strengthen relationships between the department and the diverse communities we serve. This role is instrumental in building trust, promoting transparency, and ensuring open and meaningful communication between law enforcement and residents, businesses, and community organizations. Work Week: Typically Monday - Friday with occasional evening and weekend work as needed.

Part-Time Police Officer

We're accepting applications for a part-time Police Officer to join our public safety team. As a part-time Police Officer, you will be instrumental in ensuring the safety and security of the Municipal Court, Bozeman Public Safety Center, and law enforcement during special events. Work Week: Two 8 hour shifts, totaling 16 hours per week
You must possess a current MT P.O.S.T. certification or a current valid transferable P.O.S.T law enforcement basic certificate.

Sworn Positions

Police Officer: The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform a variety of law enforcement duties in the enforcement of all Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances to ensure the preservation of public peace, prevention of crimes, and the protection of life and property.

Part Time Police Officer: The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide security for the Municipal Court, the Bozeman Public Safety Center, and for law enforcement during special events, performing a variety of law enforcement duties in the enforcement of all Federal, State, and local laws and ordinances to ensure the preservation of public peace, prevention of crimes, and the protection of life and property.

Civilian Positions

The civilians who work for the Bozeman Police Department are an integral part of the team!

Our civilian or non-sworn staff include:

Animal Control Officers: The principal function of an employee in this class is to educate and enforce animal control laws and regulations to ensure a safe environment for City residents.

Digital Forensic Analyst: The Digital Forensic Analyst is responsible for supervising a secure Computer Forensic Laboratory. The analyst will work cooperatively with law enforcement with the goal of collecting, analyzing, preparing and delivering digital evidence for criminal cases for the Bozeman Police Department.

Evidence Technician: The position is responsible for evidence related functions at complex crime scene investigations; responsibility for the evaluation of the scene; use of various types of equipment; develops, secures and packages physical evidence for scientific evaluation and comparison; prepares reports on the observations and activities at the scene for the law enforcement agency responsible for the investigation of the crime; testifies in court regarding the findings and processing methods used at the scene.

Police Crash Investigator I & II: The principal function of an employee in this class is to respond to motor vehicle crashes and conduct related investigation and complete administrative documentation of crashes.

Police Administrative Coordinator: The principal function of an employee in this class is to serve as the Terminal Agency Coordinator for CJIN/NCIC systems, provide routine analysis and quality control over uniform crime reporting sent to the FBI, and to train personnel on electronic systems used by the department. Additionally, this role supports the Chief and Deputy Police Chief with a variety of clerical duties, including scheduling and financial reporting.

Police Information Manager: The principal function of an employee in this class is to manage administrative support to law enforcement personnel in the preparation and maintenance of police records, business documents and work-related products. This classification requires supervision of assigned subordinate administrative personnel.

Police Information Specialists: The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide administrative support to law enforcement personnel in the preparation and maintenance of police records, business documents and work-related products.

Special Services Officer: The principal function of an employee in this class is to provide security for the Municipal Court and Bozeman Public Safety Center.

Internships

The Bozeman Police Department manages the intern program with Montana State University (MSU). Currently, internships are only available to MSU students.

Each intern works 4 hours a day, 3 days a week during a semester. Interns gain valuable experience with police departments. They usually work with the detective division. Their work includes gathering crime data and carrying out investigations.

Volunteer Opportunities

A strong partnership between police and community helps prevent crime. Our volunteer program supports this partnership by involving people in programs and events. Our volunteers support the Bozeman Police Department in many different ways. These people help make Bozeman a safer place to live and work.

Minimum Qualifications

18 years of age
No felony convictions
No non-traffic misdemeanors convictions within the past year
Good, oral character
Desire to serve the Bozeman community
