IMG_0827Sometimes, our prevention efforts aren't enough. As Bozeman grows, we receive more calls for service. Our Operations Division stands ready to answer those calls.

Bozeman Firefighters must be ready to handle all kinds of incidents, including fire, rescue, medical calls, trench and rope rescues, vehicle removals, and hazardous materials. We are one of six regional teams in Montana that handle hazardous materials.

Training is a priority for the Operations Division, and our team trains for anything and everything. Each firefighter completes 240 hours of training per year. Agencies like National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Centers for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE), and Insurance Services Office (ISO) set this training requirement.

Our key training programs include:

  • Acquired structure training
  • New recruit firefighter academy (Gallatin Valley Fire Academy)
  • Wildland Firefighter training
  • Enhanced Technical Rescue training

All team members are Emergency Medical Technicians, and some are also Paramedics.

When not answering calls for service or training, firefighters inspect and maintain equipment, stay fit, conduct fire inspections, and teach the public.
