Christmas Decorations

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Completed Red Decoration

Each year the city Forestry Division hangs the downtown "spiders" with help from a local private tree company, a crane service, the city Sign Department, and the Bozeman Fire Department. Santa makes his official appearance during the annual Christmas Stroll to flip the switch and light up Main Street for the holidays!

Main street intersections not decorated with the spiders are adorned with wreaths, attached to signal posts by Forestry personnel. We also decorate the two large spruce trees in Soroptimist Park with string lights.

Educational Outreach

The Forestry Division is always willing to help with education and training. We give demonstrations for students and other groups wanting to learn about trees and their benefits. We collaborate with local arborists and educators at MSU. Our Urban Parks & Forestry Board helps us with public awareness and education and our annual Arbor Day Celebration.

Christmas Tree Recycling

As a courtesy service, the Forestry Division recycles post-holiday Christmas trees to be composted and used as mulch in our city parks.

Christmas Tree Recycling

  • Trees will be recycled into a natural compost/mulch. Please remove ALL ornaments, lights, wire, twine, etc.
  • Please DO NOT cut the tree into smaller pieces! Whole trees are more easily managed by our equipment.
  • Wreaths and garlands are not accepted. We cannot chip this material for mulch. Please dispose of these items properly.

Recycling Sites are currently closed.

Alley Clearance

Forestry staff work with the Solid Waste Division on scheduled alley clearings.

Residents are responsible for maintaining vegetation from private properties. Trees, shrubs and hedges must be kept clear of alleys up to 14' in height. Encroaching vegetation that has been deemed a public nuisance or hazard will be referred to Code Compliance (BMC Sec. 16.05.340).
