Absolutely not! All residence information such as occupancy, number of bathrooms, appliances, and irrigation system equipment is optional. However, to get the most out of your Dropcountr experience, we encourage you to share as much as you are willing!  Goals and comparisons to similar households shown in Dropcountr are based on this information.

Go to “My Account” in your Dropcountr profile and select the “Notifications” option to configure any of your settings. All messages received from your utility are always stored in the “Messages” page, regardless of your notification settings.

Yes! We suggest that you notify your property manager to get their account name and number to get started.

If your water bill is paid by your HOA or similar entity and you are not a single family water customer, then you will not be able to see your home’s individual water use. Water usage for non-single family accounts represents all water use associated with one water meter.  For example, if you live in a fourplex, it is likely that the water use for all four units is captured by the same water meter; all of that water use would be represented in Dropcountr.

To close your existing account, email support@dropcountr.com.  To open a new account, go to dropcountr.com/bozeman.  You will need your email and a password, service address, account name, and the account number on your new utility statement.

Simply send an email to support@dropcountr.com to close your account.

Yes!  Create a Dropcountr account for one of your properties and log in.  Navigate to 'My Account' and select 'Add Site' to add additional properties in your Dropcountr account.

We are only permitted to provide account information to the account holder. We suggest contacting your property manager for account information and permission to create a Dropcountr account, and proceed with registering for Dropcountr using your own login information. 

Yes – if you are a renter receiving the water bill that is 'in care of current resident', then you can sign up for Dropcountr. All you need is the service address, account number, account name, and your email address.

Dropcountr was provided only access to your water usage information through a secure file-transfer-protocol program.

You can set notifications to receive alerts if your water usage exceeds a certain cost or usage threshold.  Navigate to 'My Account', select 'Notifications', and opt-in to 'Cost Threshold Alerts' and/or 'Usage Threshold Alerts'.  Once opting-in (by toggling to 'yes'), you can select how you would like to receive the alerts (email or push notification) and set the threshold for each based on your preferences.

Dropcountr calculates your water-use goal by considering the number of people in your household and what is considered to be efficient water use per person each day. If you have a sprinkler system and water your lawn in the summer, select 'sprinkler' in your site profile and adjust your parcel size and irrigable area (the irrigable area represents the % of your parcel that is irrigated by your sprinkler system).  By doing this, your goal will change throughout the summer based on temperature, precipitation, and the water demands of your lawn.

The household comparison compares your household to similar households that have registered for Dropcountr in your area. This means comparing 2-person, 2-bathroom households without a sprinkler system to homes with similar occupancy and outdoor water use. You can change the number of households you are compared to by adjusting the area size under 'Nearby Households'.  It can be adjusted between a 0.5 mile radius of your home, up to a 5 mile radius of your home.

Efficient households are the 20% most efficient similar households you’re compared to.

The rate structure for the City's single family customer customer class is ‘tiered’, meaning that the cost per unit of water increases from one tier to the next.  Each color represents water use in different rate tiers.  To learn more about water rates and the City's tiered rate structure, visit the City's Utilities Services webpage.  You can also click on the monthly water use graph in Dropcountr to view your itemized usage in each tier.

Unfortunately, not all Bozeman residents receive weekly or daily water use information. This can be due to a number of factors such as having an older meter model, the location of your home, or your meter's signal being disrupted due to its proximity to exterior walls, etc.  These things can inhibit a meter's ability to communicate regularly with the data collectors that receive and send water use information to Dropcountr.  As the majority of Bozeman water meters are located in a home's crawlspace, a number of meters will experience some signal disruption, which will be displayed as a period of no water use in Dropcountr.

Dropcountr has built an algorithm to detect irrigation events and display that specific usage separately from household usage included in the yearly, monthly, and daily water use graphs.  The algorithm considers trends in usage such as watering at the same time on the same days of the week, and usage volume that would generally be associated with an irrigation system.  For these reasons, the algorithm may not always accurately represent water use associated with irrigation.

When your meter communicates water use information to Bozeman's data collectors, that usage is not time-stamped. If your meter does not consistently communicate with the data collectors, your water use information may show up as a lump sum once the meter does effectively communicate again.  For example, if your meter communicated with the data collectors on Monday at noon, but didn't successfully communicate with them again until Wednesday at noon, all of the usage within that 48 hour period will appear at noon on Wednesday. 

A meter is ideally replaced when its battery life is coming to an end and is costly to replace ahead of schedule. The City’s Water Department actively monitors when meters need to be replaced and will contact you when it is time for a new one. Also, there is no guarantee that a new meter will result in a more up-to-date water usage in Dropcountr.

Dropcountr determines that you may have a leak if your home has 48 hours of continuous water usage of 3 gallons per hour or more. Leak notifications will be sent immediately after the first 48 hours of continuous usage.  Notifications will continue to be sent every 3-10 days, based on the size of the potential leak.
